I have a 2005 F150 with a 5.4L Triton. I got a code of P0012. So I changed the solenoid for Bank 1. Soon it threw the code again so I took it to the mechanic and he said it threw some new codes and recommended an oil pressure test. After the oil pressure test he recommended a new engine.
I was not able to actually speak to the technician so that he could explain exactly what happened to my engine or what caused it. Or if I had any other options. The shop is so "efficient" that they had a girl reading the technician's notes to me and rephrasing what I could read myself. I guess this is avoids pulling the technician away from higher paying tasks so that the shop makes more money. But it left me in the dark.
Can someone explain what this means? First, what was the chain of events that caused this. And second why is the engine ruined? What would happen if I just changed the oil pump without replacing the engine?
I don't believe that the shop is trying to sell me on unnecessary work, because they know that a new engine cost more than the vehicle is worth.

If you read about the 5.4 3v you will see that this is a common theme.
It is entirely possible that you could do a lot of work and repair your engine. Most shops will recommend to replace the engine because they can warranty that, but they don't want to warranty the timing job that is very labor intensive just to have it come back because too much damage was done due to low oil pressure or previous wear and tear.
Many of us have successfully revived these engines, but diy is the more cost effect way if you are capable.
In my opinion The first step would be to see what the actual oil pressure was, and then remove the valve covers and inspect the cam journal caps for excessive scoring or wear before deciding how to proceed.
