Don't skip over the negative posts. There is a TON of good information that you should know and understand if you own one of these trucks. However the way I look at it is you never hear the good ones. Which dept do you think is more busy at ANY business, the complaint department or the praise department? Oh wait I've never heard of a praise department because again you only hear the complaints. On that subject though I bet the positive posts out number the negative posts on here 10 to 1. You just have to read the right threads. Again don't ignore the negative posts I look at them as very good info every owner should know rather than negative posts about our trucks!

Agreed. Consider this forum a knowledge base, so if you do encounter issues, you have the know-how to tackle it.

I understand your point but strongly disagree with your 10-1 favorable post.

Enclosed is a screen shot of the 5.4 thread.

Proves my point. Mostly problems. I'm just suggesting this truck is a lot better than the post would lead you to believe.

Lol fair enough but I also think it matters where you look. 2 of the biggest threads on here are probably 90% not negative.

And I try to avoid those. At the end of the day, I just want to enjoy my truck and not fear what might or might not ever be a problem.

FYI. I really enjoy the towing section and it's not filled with problems.

Default We are here to help fix these trucks

You will come here when you have a problem and you will be glad for the sharing . I have been the recipient of a lot of knowledge that has helped me fix my truck . Its over ten years old and running good after 165k miles . She would be gone if not for this forum . I hope to pass on some of this , its only fair . It takes time and effort to help explain but I owe it . I'm retired so I can do it .
I'm not a professional wrench and these people on here amaze me .
Look at a these proud young guys on here pimping out their rides .
They even have me retro fitting led headlights on mine .
Welcome to the community of ford truck fixers . No offense intended!

9 years later and many miles spent towing trailers of some sort. It's the best vehicle I have ever owned. No complaints what so ever.

My advice is to skip the negative post and enjoy the truck.

The advice from the guys before are right on.

For the record, mine uses a quart ever 3000. Has since day one. Never any worse and only seems to go away when I'm towing a lot.
The negative post are people with problems looking for help.. You have to remember how many 04-08 F-150's are out there.. Most owners that have no problems will never see a forum.. You will see most owners that need advice or help with a problem.

The truck has 151k miles on it and I am the second owner. I am confident these are mostly highway miles as previous driver (female) was a nurse with 80 mile roundtrip commute to work. Previous owner stated that truck has never pulled anything (truck had no hitch on it and can tell a ball was never put on the bumper as paint on top and bottom are perfect). Previous owner said maintenance was up to date but had very few receipts all from small oil change place. Oil was in good shape and air filter was pretty clean when I purchased it. Brakes and tires are relatively new but haven't checked anything else at this point.

So I have never bought a vehicle with this many miles and without records of what has been done I know there are a lot of things that could be done. Since I've never owned a Ford before (always been a Mopar guy...) and don't know anything about the 5.4L motor. I'm hoping someone can recommend the maintenance items they would consider most important at this point.

Things I was thinking I would do first.....
Oil change (done - used conventional but not sure if should be using synthetic)
Spark Plugs
Transmission Service
Differential Service

Last thing....Finding this forum has been great but has also made me nervous reading about some of the known issues with the 5.4L motor. anything specific I should be worried about and/or did they fix any of the issues I see discussed here in the later years of the motor?

thanks in advance for any responses.
Send me a P/M with your email address and I will send you a PDF copy of the Maintenance Guide for your truck.

@NC F150

I've taken the liberty to provide you a current screen shot of a Chevy-GMC-Sierra 1500 Forum.

Seems the Chevy enthusiasts don't spend all their time on their Forum singing the praises of their GM trucks either. No intent to denigrate them, but I have no idea whether they are as helpful as my fellow Forum members or not.
