Low beam headlights stink

I have seen alot of headlight upgrades on this forum. This week I traveled on an unlit highway, and do my stock headlight STINK. :wallbash: They do not project very far, and the headlights are aligned right. Makes night driving a pain. I would like the lights to brighten up the road ahead of me, but not blind others. The high beams worked just fine, low beams sucked. Is this why I have seen so many headlight upgrades?

im surprised to hear that, my low beams worked just great, sure they dont compare to my hid's now, r the lenses yellowed, or maybee the actual light is getting tired, do u have a leveling kit? could be a few thing but generally the ford truck lights r good

Lenses clear as day, not leveled. >14k. Can't be tired yet. Was a real pain driving in the dark AND rain

Has someone changed your bulbs in the past? My stocks are so bright that combined with my lift kit people get pissed when I'm behind them on the highway.

No they are stock. I read there is a Sylvania replacement bulb that is brighter without going hid. Anyone know what model/bulb that might be?

I have Silverstars in my truck and people flash me on the highway when I just have the dims on. I have stock lights and I can see lots with just the dims.

Your looking for the Silverstar line by Sylvania. I run them in both my truck and Mustang. Very good light output. Dim lights have a sort of yellowish look to them, switch to brights and its a cool white light with a hint of blue.

silverstars are what u want.. easy to install

stp77 11-28-2010 02:27 AM

H13 for your high/low and h10 for the fog light, the sylverstar r good but im thinking u might have another problem cause even when i had my stock lights i would get flashed on my low beams, u should mesure the voltage at ur socket, use a common voltmeter and find a good ground( not the one in the socket) ford have alternating ground and power, on low the far left prong should have at least 11 volts and on high the dar left and midle prong should have at least 11 volts, its normal not to have 12 v because u lose power through ur small wiring, test that and tell me what u get,

Don't forget that night driving with rain will be as dark as you will ever get. If I didn't know better, I would've said my HIDs were out last time I drove in that kind of weather.

where are you guys getting your ss bulbs? Autozone and Advanced dont have them

I put in DDM H13's hi/lo and then the offset of the headlight was very noticeable. IMO HID's are the way to go if you want the biggest improvement without any high dollar or permanent applications. Very quick to install then just use a 4mm hex to adjust the headlights up and down until they look about right. Just park 20-25 feet from a flat wall or garage door on level ground. Use some masking tape so that you can tell where your beams stop (staring at them for just a couple mins while adjusting, you'll strain and it gets difficult to see the cut off clearly.) until they look about right. Go for a drive then tweak a little up or down for personal liking.

Enjoi! Good luck bud!

Just put silverstars in headlights and fogs, had to adjust the height just a little bit, but wow! They are no joke! I got them aimed perfectly and can't wait for some nightime highway driving with my high beams on!

I put a set in my wifes car a couple weeks ago and they made a huge improvement in her car too, that's why I figured I'd put a set in my truck, worth the 40$!, plus I got mail in rebates for 10$...

Btw- I got them at advance auto, and pep boys...

DroveMyChevy2TheLevy 02-25-2011 11:26 PM

i had the exact opposite problem. my high beams would point upward and not even touch the road it seemed. my low beams were brighter than my high beams until i had them adjusted.

Inflms656 03-01-2011 10:25 PM

To the guys with the silverstar bulbs how long have you had them? I have been reading that they do not last very long but the people that said it had never had them installed so not sure where they are getting there info...
