Default Long or short Headers.

From what I have gathered and read, long tube headers are better at high rpm flow and short tube headers are better (yet less power producing) across a larger rpm range. Am I off here, what I want is more low to mid range power with OMG!!! a lot are going to hate this but ohwell the cats deleted. Where I live the boat only comes once a year with fuel so you can figure out the quality of fuel we have. So the cats up here get lugged in a heart beat and then the truck runs like a sack. The exhaust I want is simple and effective, Headers or manifolds don't really care offroad Y pipe with ports welded in for O2 sensors and then a side exit dual pipe before the rear tires. With having the O2 sensors reinstalled in the exhaust will I need a programmer to ward off a lean condition. Thanks any advice.

Not sure about the headers but I'm pretty sure u might need a tuner to program the truck to run right after installing the headers. Either way, having a tuner is good to have anyway if I were u I would considering buying one whether u get headers or not
