He asked for suggestions.... People are advising per his request, I doubt anybody on here is trying to bash his placement. They are offering their opinion which was requested. As for my opinion I would leave that area open as well. Like was stated earlier Ford put the cooler and opening there for a reason (not that I trust an engineer as far as I can throw them) but it makes sense to me and I'm not an engineer. What kind of grille do you have? Can you mount it behind the grille?

If I think of it, I will block off my lower grill next time I tow my TT and just see what happens. If it appears to run hot I can pull over and pull off the cover.

It is 'a lot' not "alot" and 'warts' not "worts". Ford spent many man hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars in wind tunnel, real world and simulation tests for these trucks. They just don't put holes in strategic locations for no reason. Every change made when manufacturing a truck costs big money when you figure you have to do it to every unit you manufacturer. What may cost .50 cents per unit costs MILLIONS over the run of that generation. Heck Ford made/sold 939,000 F150s in 2005 ALONE. The OP asked for opinions and he is getting them.

Do you happen to have an H Bar grille like pictured here?
I have always thought these grilles would look good with a light bar in either of the horizontal spaces or 2 lights in the 2 side openings? Then your not blocking the only real opening for the tranny cooler and the radiator will still have several openings for the air to get through.

I as well have towed decent loads. Not a huge travel trailer. But a jeep on a trailer. As well as a 20ft flat bed car hauler loaded down with atvs and a side by side. Had no issues with the transmission. I do not have a gauge to read trans temp yet. But I haven't had issues with any of it with the light bar mounted in this location.
