i've got a guy who is going to put a sub system in my truck, and he only does kicker audio stuff. he quoted me out at a fairly good price, but i noticed the most expensive part was the amp, he plans to put in a kicker 500 watt. would this be enough to power two 10's?

i asked him if i should find a cheaper, different brand amp that has a higher power rating but he tells me that kicker's are true power rated amps, and that the cheaper brand's watt numbers are not accurate. is this true? should i go for the kicker or find something else? i'm just nervous to hear he wants to put a 500 watt pushing two 10s...

 

Its gonna have no problem pushing 2 10s. Kicker is top of the line. I got a 400 watt alpine pushing my Rockford p3.. plenty of power

 

alright awesome that's good to hear. i was just weary because i have friends claiming to push 2 subs with 1500+ watt amps, but they're also off-brand amps, so i was curious.

 

It all depends on what you want. If you want to compete in db contests, 500w is nothing, but off you want a nice system to listen to around town, 500 w on 2 10s in the right box will sound killer. To be honest, my last system was only 400 watts total on 4 polk audio door speakers and a single polk audio 12, and it was more clear and well balanced than my previous off brand system of 2800w. Kicker is a great brand, and the name brand amps are generally more clear and offer much less noise and distortion. There are some 2nd rate amps that are just as good, but not many. If you like clean bass, then the kicker is for you, if you just want a rumble in the back and don't care about the sound quality, then any amp will do.

 

yeah definitely not going for competition status, my budget is nowhere near that haha. i guess i will go with the kicker 500, sound like its just what i need then.

 

I have a kicker 750 amp and two tens and have the amp half way and it hits HARD!

 

to push two 10's do i need a mono amp or a 2 or 4-channel?

also should i get 4-ohm subs or 2-ohm?

 

I believe mine is a 2 ohm

 

Cheap amps do not push the amount of watts they say it's usually a lot less. If you go with a good name brand amp it should come with a certificate on how much power it pushes. So your friend that has 1500 watts probably only has half that at most.

 

I have 2 10in kicker in my truck. i have a 1200 watt kenwood pushing it. i know the amp is not true 1200 but its at least 800 or 900. The amp is only like 120 bucks and ive had no problems with it.
