key programming
do i need to do this at the dealership???, or can i do it at home??
I had one of my keys stolen from me and i got another one and had it programmed from ford. i got thinking today i wonder if they removed the stolen key out of the system, so i phoned and the service manager told me they didnt, they just programmed the new key to work.
thanks

With the ford keys if you have two keys, you can add a third, but it keeps the signature the same on the keys, IE old keys will work.
To un-program old keys, you will most likely need to have the dealer reprogram the ignition. My dealer charged $60 to do it for me.

If they did it the right way, the old key wont start the truck. It takes two keys, ignition key code erase and program, then only those two keys will start the truck. There are other options, such as additional key program and such, but key code erase is all that should ever be used in a case where a key is stolen. Ask to talk to the tech who programmed it and see if thats the route they took. If you are worried about it, don't forget that the key will still at least open the door....
I found out the technician didnt realize that the one key was stolen, he thought i was just adding a key. so they are going to do it no charge when i come back in.
thanks for the responses guys.
