Default Key activation

I Recently found myself in possession of a 2008 f150 that was my girlfriends grandfathers , problem is there’s no keys I’ve changed the lock and got a new set of keys but I was wondering if the keys could be reprogrammed without the dealer, due to the fact the dealer doesn’t have the factory key code for the truck, If anyone has anything I can go off of it would be a big help, this is the first time in 8years that anyone in the family has seen the truck .

You can call a locksmith and see what he says.

The key code, besides being unavailable (too old), isn't needed as the mechanical key is now different due to the new cylinder. If none of the original keys are available, then PATS will need to be reprogrammed. While a dealer, locksmith, or competent mechanic can certainly do it, you can DIY with Forscan (with free extended license) on a Windows platform and an appropriate OBDII adapter.

If any of the original keys are available, there are "no-cost" options available.

It should work on any of the models that use timed security access. PATS programming functionality was added to Forscan at least 5 years ago.

Now, for models that use in-out code security, i don't know. I haven't looked into that for a long time.
