Default Junkyard GEARS

Has anyone pulled gears from the junkyard/pull-a-part? I wanna go with Ford 4.10's to save on the cost and thought that it would help me save a few $$'s if i pulled some off of another F150...........

Good luck on finding that. The only F150s with 4.10 gears had the Heavy Duty package. You can spot them easily by the 7 lug wheels. Also, if there is an ext cab with an 8ft bed, it's guaranteed to have the 5.4 and 4.10 gears.

DO NOT use used gears. Getting them lined up and meshed right will be tough because of the wear patterns.

I made the mistake of having used gears put in my Mustang and they made a ton of howling noise. I ended up buying new gears for it.

could have been that they were installed wrong too. as long as they arent damaged they should be fine. many jeep guys install junk yard or used gears with no probs, my friend had some 3.73 gear out of an explorer put on his stang with no noise either. its a judgment call to buy some junk yard or used gears. if u have the money buy new

What about swapping the whole rearend. You won't have to set anything up and it should be quite a bit easier As long as the thing isn't grenaded of course.
