So my drivers side iwe got replaced becuz the hub was staying locked in always. Both sides were tested and have proper amount of vaccum. Now i believe the iwe solenoid on the firewall has gone bad it is the original without the rain guard. I get a grinding noise now for only about 30 seconds but only happens once untill i shut the truck off and start it up again and take off. Iv read about water getting in that iwe and causing a grinding problem. Is this true and could this be my problem? 2004 fx4

 

Yes it could be.. i would replace it if everything else checks out. Check your che k valves also.

 

Happened to me a couple weeks ago. A good way to make sure it's your vacuum hoses is put it in 4wd and drive and if the grinding doesn't happen then ther ya go
