Intermittent use and starter problems
I have a 2007 F150 4x4 with 73,300+ miles on it. Regular maintenance has been done, and it has a brand new battery. I live in rural Alaska, and keep the truck in Anchorage, where there are roads. The truck is parked outside in storage, usually with the battery disconnected, as the battery will drain if it is left connected. The truck is generally parked from 1-3 months between uses. The truck will start when I pick it up, but the last 2 times I drove it, it started fine several times the first day, but then when left overnight, it will not start. The lights go on, the battery seems fine, but nothing happening with the starter. Not even a click, or an attempt to turn over.
The mechanic told me it is likely a computer problem, and to use a battery saver - a plug-in device that will prevent the problem when the battery is disconnected. I tried that, but the batteries in the device drained over the time the truck was stored. Anyone have any ideas how to deal with this?

Yes, tried jumping it, trickle charge, etc. No go. Towed it to the mechanic who said it was a bad starter, and he replaced the starter - now it starts. I read another thread from a person with similar problems, who had a bad wire that caused his starter to go and his alternator also before they found the faulty wire. Any thoughts on the likelihood of this possibility? Is there a way to check the wiring before it causes more problems? The truck is still at the mechanics, if anyone has any great ideas.....
