Default Intake/ MAF sensor questikn

Hey guys, it’s been awhile since I’ve been on here. I haven’t owned an f150 for awhile since moving up to the diesel world. Still have my diesel but last year I picked up a super low mileage 08 f150 XLT with 32k miles on it for a screaming deal. This is my third f150, I had two 03s in the past, and we had an 05 expedition as a family vehicle for a few years so I’m no stranger to the fun of a 5.4. On to my issue.. so the truck had a cheap spectre intake on it from the PO, filter looked good so I figured I would keep it until it needed addressing. Fast forward, truck has almost 40k on it now and it starts throwing the classic MAF sensor/ lean codes so I pop the hood to clean the MAF and air filter, turns out the boots on the intake have disintegrated, torn apart, and the flopping of the intake elbow broke the PCV vent tube. So I ordered an airraid CAI and got a new vent tube, but I was missing the factory intake seal/boot/gasket, whatever it’s called so I got a 4” intake coupler and wiggled it in, it was tight against the firewall but it got a good seal and should work until I can get a new factory seal. I cleaned the MAF, reset the codes and went on my test drive.

the issue I WAS having was extremely bogged down throttle. It wouldnt go over 20 MPH, and the rpms just bounced up and down almost like the PCM wasn’t allowing the truck anymore fuel. By the time I had gotten back to my driveway it seemed to have let up, this was about 5 miles round trip, I live on a mountain in the middle of nowhere, it’s 2.5 miles down, 2.5 miles back up. I didn’t notice it on the down hill because it was basically idling the whole way. So I repeated the test drive, by the time I got to the main road everything seemed fine. I drive another 5 or so miles into town and turned around and came home. Everything seems fine, no codes, no bogging down, nothing. Hit about 50mph at one point and all seemed fine and felt regular.

my question, has anyone experienced similar symptoms while cleaning or messing with the intake? Was this just part of the reset process? Was my MAF out of whack from cleaning it?
