Default Instrument cluster swap

Hey everyone

Had a question. Have a 2006 with the dreaded illuminated parking brake light that if you wiggle the wires it does go off but comes back later in the day meaning the solder is bad.

I found an 2004/2005 F-150 that had this instrument cluster (pic on carpet) which I like much more due to the design. The 2004/2005 came from a model with the floor stick shift vs the steering column like on my 2006 and had the FX4 insert where the PRND21 go but I pulled that filler piece out.

I have a Ford tech person at a Ford dealer that will do the swap for me and reprogram the remotes and the odometer reading at the Ford dealer and I told him I would make sure this swap is possible without any sort of errors or causing certain things not to work.

My question is are there any issues with this swap that I absolutely should not do or that the tech needs to know about?

Does anyone recommend against this swap or if it's not even possible?

Pics attached. My cluster is the one with all the lights illuminated (took right on start up). Thank you for any information. I know some have swapped clusters from other same year models and hoping anyone can give input on this.

I didn’t read whole post. This comes up often. You have to get a cluster that came from trick with same hvac controls. If not everything will NOT work right.

guessing your have manual hvac and other cluster had auto climate, but that is what you need to figure out.

id suggest living with light, having yours rebuilt, OR buying a rebuilt/guaranteed cluster off eBay (ask before buying if they are able/willing to program correct mileage).

Thanks for the reply. That's probably what I needed to know. Unfortunately when I pulled this I didn't look at the HVAC controls in particular.

Yes we have a manual ones. No auto.

I do believe the one I pulled look like this inside. Theirs was an FX4 and ours is a FX4 and both models are off-road without much amenities.

If that is the case then it may work. However, you may wind up with the same problem on the brake light if that cluster was never repaired (ie it’s a common problem).

You may want to get a hard quote/estimate from tech in doing the programming and install. might be better off getting a repaired one or you can get it with programming included, and the. Do self install/swap.
