This is the first time for me to install an onboard air system.
My first problem was where to install the gauges. under dash left of steering wheel, right of steering wheel, in the glove box? Hmm? How about in the dash.


So then I looked for a place under the truck for the tank and compressor. Over the diff? .. Nope! need to remove the spare and didn't want to drill through my bed. over the dive shaft? No! No room. It looked like along the pass side frame rail will work. Not my Preferred spot but seems to be usable. but the frame is not channel, it is boxed in no place for a nut on the back side. one shop said to use self tapping screws. Hmm? I don't have any. I have lots of hardware and time...??
I'll just drill tap and mount the stuff to the frame. so I made templates. drilled holes and ran taps to thread the holes. The frame seems thick enough.
So there you have it all things mounted. In the morning I will run the lines.

So let me have it what did I do wrong. Or should I say what do you think?

 

thats cool man, i like where you put the gauge at. didnt ogterror do something like this too? im just not sure what you need this for.

 

Yes he did. Made me want mine even sooner.

It will give me the freedom to air my tires down for the desert. before I would only air down a little so I could drive home still.

Now I can air down much more. It's not good on the tire sidewall to drive on pavement with only 15 psi. these tires cost way to much to tear them up. The drive could be 25 to 40 miles when looking for a gas station with air after coming out of the desert.

how about.... how many times did you wish you had a way to blow up that inflatable for the wirfe, girlfriend or kids. Or you forgot the air pump that plugs into the cig lighter.

Your out with your atv and for some reason you need to work on something and you wish you had some air to blow off that dirty part or blow out the carb jet that was causing the your bike to Idle bad.

So many uses, but mainly tires.

 

ok yea i was thinking that is was going to be used for tires, thats pretty handy then. i have a little pump under my seat that plugs into the cig lighter incase i ever have to pump a tire up. i transfered it from my previous car and it worked fine for the 245/35/20 tires i had on there but im not so sure i would be able to pup up these 35s if i ever needed to. it might take it a day or so. haha

 

Hey I finished my install. OOPs! It is called VIAIR not AIAIR

After mounting the Switches, Compressor, and tank. I needed to run Electrical and air lines

You need to run two power sources into the square grey relay/pressure sw that is mounted to the forward position on the tank, one power wire is from the battery and the other is from the switch that I mounted on the dash.
Next I ran the air line for the gauge that I had mounted in the dash. I ran the power wire and the air line together from the back of the tank area. through a channel in the frame. ( the channel is under the rear door area of the frame) it is square tube with a clear shot from the left side of the truck frame to the right side of the frame. then I ran the harness up he left outside of the truck frame. I came into the cab trough the harness boot and the up the door post behind the panel where the gauge and switch was installed.
then I ran the power wire from the battery (fused) down the harness from the computer on the fire wall. into the frame and down toward the tank. I brought the wire out of the frame right by the rely/pressure switch mounted on the tank.

there were three grounds to install. one for the compressor mounted to the frame by the compressor, The second one was for the relay/pressure switch (mounted to the body close to switch) and third for the light on the gauge. Oh yes I picked up the hot for the gauge off the light switch wires.

Note: I used wire wrap on all the wire runs.
