Inquiring about upgrades to my F150
I have a 2006 Ford F150 Lariat 5.4L 4x4 with about 140,000 miles. I recently had to replace the ball joints and struts on the truck so I decided to put Rancho Struts with 2.5 inch level on it. Now I can put 33 inch tires on it and continue to make upgrades. My question is, is it worth it?
Some of the stuff I'm look for is CAI, programmer (Edge or CTS), exhaust etc. Do you think any of this is worth it at 140xxx miles? I planned on keeping this truck for a while so I wanted to have a little fun with it. Sorry if it's a dumb question, I just want my truck to look and sound good while increasing performance.

CAI wont do much on its own. However when paired with a tuner and a good exhaust you could see a slight ROI. Probably not as much as you would want to see but if you want a CAI then make sure you pair it up with the tuner and exhaust. Do not do a CAI by itself.

Thanks for the replies. I plan on keeping the truck for a while and when **** hits the fan just get transmission work done and engine repair. I like this model f150, so you think it's totally do able or just delaying the inevitable?

What do you mean by totally doable? Will it increase your performance? Yes not a ton but those items together will be noticeable. The CAI or exhaust by itself wont be noticeable other than sound. The tuner will make a difference by itself but combined with the other 2 items will make it that much better. Can you do it by yourself? That depends on your level of skill. The CAI is pretty easy. The tuner just requires a little know how and the exhaust requires the time and skill. Is it worth it to keep the truck? That all depends on how well it is maintained and taken care of.

No No, sorry my meaning was when I need to do complete engine work and tranny work. I would like to hold onto this truck for a while, and I really don't want another truck payment. Could I just swap the engine to keep it going or would you advise just upgrading to a newer truck?

OIC, well that is a question I cant really answer for you. IMO that really depends on what you want and have available financially. These trucks overall are very good trucks as long as they are maintained. You cant skip the basics. Everything that is recommended as far as scheduled maintenance should be done. I love my truck and plan on keeping it for a very long time. It has just under 130k on it but I also don't want a truck payment and just put about 3k into it having the timing redone as I had slight issues. Overall what you do with the truck is up to you.

Yeah I just put 1,300 in it and if I put exhaust and everything that will look like about 2K with CIA, and programmer. I do regular maint. and take car of it on the road.
