Default Infamous 6 CD Player Question

My 08 has the 6 cd changer with aux input. Almost everyday, I can hear it making noise, especially at a red light. The noise is like the "eye/laser" of the CD player is trying to find a track or skipping tracks. Sometimes it squeaks as well as it's doing this tracking noise. I have tried to eject any CD's out of there (I don't know if there are any in there since I bought the truck used), but nothing comes out. No errors on the display, but it also wont load any new CD that I try and feed into it. Question is, is there a way to reset the unit, or is it toast?

Thanks!!

Don't know of any reset or if it would make any difference. You could check craigslist to try and find one that someone pulled out of their truck. I'm sure you could get one for around $20 so doesn't hurt the wallet.

Or maybe its time to upgrade to an aftermarket deck. They are very reasonably priced, and you will get added benefits like Bluetooth, back-up camera, GPS, etc..

A last gasp trick that sometimes works is to remove both the positive and negative battery cables from the battery, and touch them together for a few seconds. This forces the radio to do a complete clear of its memory (you will loose all stored settings). Then reconnect and see if you can eject or load any CD's.
If that did not work, then the CD laser is weak (common in these radios) and would need to be replaced. Not worth the cost unless you prefer the dash to be stock. Aftermarket radio replacements are cheaper in cost, and much better.

alright...I will look into possibly changing out the deck. The only think I worry about is once I do the deck, I'll want to do the speakers, add an amp and sub, etc!

The stock speakers aren't actually too bad. I installed some Pioneer speakers in my truck after reading great reviews on them, but I don't notice any improvement at all.

But, I do love have the aftermarket deck. Sirius, back-up camera, GPS, bluetooth. It was well worth the money.
