Default Impact and sparkplugs

So I've heard the method and seen you tube videos on it but have a few questions to those that have done it. What size impact gun do you use? 3/8 or 1/2. Does air pressure matter or does it need to be regulated. Would a pneumatic 3/8 ratchet work? Thanks

3/8 is what we use, but we use electric. If you're using an air impact, just be careful with how hard you pound on them. Don't want to get them spinning too fast once it comes loose and pecker the threads. Are you doing prep (PEA cleaner, Kreen/Kroil) before hand?

impact and spark plugs does not sound like a good idea at all. theyre put in with a socket wrench, take em out with a socket.

that just dont sound good to me at all. not to mention trying to get the impact in there, im sure thats a pain.

Pity it's what most Ford techs are using now on the 3V motor. It's better than broken plugs. We've used both methods (by hand and impact) with success.

Impact gets them out quick before they have a chance to break. And it gives a pure rotational force. Not a side load like a ratchet.

Makes for much easier work on things like this.

well i guess it wouldnt make much of a difference since theyre breaking by hand on them 3v anyways. im sure the impact will rock em loose and give you a higher chance of getting them out without breaking.

cant imagine its easy to get the impact in there to get them out lol.

I am fixing to start the whole running cleaners in my fuel then I plan on letting the plugs soak over night with a penatrating liquid. I just wanted to make sure my impact gun wouldn't be too strong. Which all I have is an air powered 1/2 drive.

I would recommend an electric one. You could regulate the airpressure under 60psi to start and see how it goes.

Seen it done both way and break either way, I dont think it would matter the size impact as long as you control as OTTO stated. Good luck!
