City driving I get about 13mpg, normal highway (short distance) about 15, but on long trips I travel at nite frequently from Nashville tn to New Orleans la and vice-versa. Last month I pushed it to the limit, cruise control set at 64mph for 500 miles on 35.5 gallons of NON ethanol gas, easy take offs kept under 2K rpms. Michelin hwy tread, 2.5" level, glasspack dual 4" side exit, recent engine software update, recent tuneup, and new fuel pump control module.. 22.6 MPG !! Sunroof open whole time (not sure if it creates drag but I would think a tiny bit) I get 18.5mpg @70mph traveling. I topped it off at 429 miles and squeezed 19 gals in it. Amazing how easy driving goes a long way in ur wallet. I was averaging 185-200 miles per 1/4 tank at that speed. Any of u guys had these kind of mpgs?
I believe it. I recently got about 19.4-19.6 mpg on a 180 mile, neutral grade trip. And I really wasn't babying it that much. I mean, I set the cruise when and where possible, but I had about half of the trip on 2-lane highways and frequently kicked'er down to pass someone. The entire last half of the trip was on a 4-lane interstate going anywhere between 55 and 80, depending on the traffic conditions.

05 Screw, 4x4 ... AS 2" leveling, 265-70-18s (Cooper A/T3s) No other mods.

Anytime I take a long trip I fill up with non ethanol with the Xlarge tank I have it's worth it I've done the numbers a lot, granted its a flex fuel that won't ever compensate for pure gasoline.. Also have an 09 F150 screw 5.4L 6spd 2wd and it gets around 21mpg @70-75. I've never gotten better in it but also haven't ever driven under 68 mph hwy in it. There is no way I could reach 22.6 in my fx4 with reg gas (10%eth) I've tried. The most with reg gas is around 19-19.5mpg. My bro hauls a 20' trailer with lawn equipment with his 07 5.4L 4x4 scab 3.53(? I think that's smaller gears) and his city/hwy avg is about 18 towing half the time but he lives in a rural area and baby's it. Born with a heavy, heavy foot it's hard so that's why I travel late at nite, I'm calmer lol

It's interesting you mention that (the 10% eth). Here in the greater Phoenix valley, it's all 10% ethanol ... I think all the time. The slightly over 1/4 of a tank I calculated out to around 19.4mpg was purchased up in Northern AZ in a small town called Ash Fork. I'd be willing to bet it was straight gas (or maybe the 3% eth stuff).

Yeah the 3.53s are probably the best highway gears for stock trim/30" tires ... as far as gas mileage goes anyway. I'm the same way about driving longer distances...I prefer to drive at night. Can set the cruise and pretty much never have to turn it off.

I reset the digital MPG reading on the dash almost through my 1st tank of gas on its only up to 12.6 MPG. I do a lot of freeway driving and i have had a very easy foot on the pedal. My questions are:

1) What MPG does your 5.4 read?
2) Is that reading accurate to your actual fuel used?
3) What mods / Maintenance have you performed to increase your fuel usage?

Obviously this is a truck and we dont drive them because they are fuel effecient, Im just trying to make sure that I am getting the most out of it.
the factory window sticker said 15 city 18 hwy. Are they even close?
This is a 04 Supercab 4x4 with 6.5 ft box
When it was stock, 14.9 hwy and I never did an average. With lift, 4.56 gears, 315's and tune, ~14mpg hwy @65 with an average of 12.7mpg. Slightly more on hwy if I do not use cruise. Cruise is made for convenience not mileage.

Stock everything with the 3.55s and the stock 20in lariat rims so little less than 32s I get 14.5 mixed(65city/35hwy). My readout says 14.6 its always one tenth off.

I honestly don't think the upgrades are goin to help mpgs much, I have a stock 08screw with 5.4 and on a trip to Nashville which was all interstate I managed to squeeze 19 out of mine doin about 75mph the whole way, average is usually around 16-17

Default Easy does it

onemyk, we all try to get a little better than what we get. we know there are ways of improving on most anything, just have to figure it out. I think most of us are do-it-yourselfers who can do the work, just looking for a little guidance. I've rebuilt motors, and every other system of cars, trucks, and jets. But computers and the related to emissions is too mind boggling for me. my 35 yold brother is the other way around in a sense, he knows the electronics, transmissions and son on, but put a carburator in front of him and he's lost!

onemyke, that's awesome... I just put 285's on my truck with stock everything else and I'm getting 13.5. With Highway tires I was getting between 15-15.5. I would KILL to get 17mpgs. You have to pay to play. I drive a truck and it comes with the territory. Going to level it out next week.
