Default This video is fiction

This video is fiction, the strut will not come out the way this video would try to make you believe. The video is cut when the pry bar is being used to move the strut out of it's position. The front control arm bolt must be removed and the rear bolt loosened before the strut will come out without cutting the cv boot

Though I didn't try it this way I'm also suspect as to if it would be possible the way shown. I followed the directions posted in other places on this and other forums, including direct from the service manual, which has you remove the tie rod and upper control arm nuts (after jacking up the truck and removing the tire of course). Not sure why they chose to do it this way. I did not have to remove the CV from the axle shaft as shown here or recommended by some others, there was plenty of wiggle room to get the axle out and back in .

I just disconnect the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle. The US enough room to pull the axle from the IWE with the ball joint separated.

And leave the tie rod connected? How about removing the brake caliper? The instructions I followed had you remove both and also wanted you to remove your axle shaft as well but I didn't do that part. If you can swap them easily by just popping the upper ball joint that would make it a very quick project.

I ended up replacing tie rods anyway since I had it apart, and probably good that I did it that way or I might not have noticed one tie rod was getting bad.

Now I'm going to go back and go ahead and replace the inner tie rods because I just happened upon Amazon warehouse having 2 "used like new" Moog inners for $7 each, wish I'd seen them before I did all this. I have 4 new tires waiting to put on and get an alignment so I figured I'd do it all before the new tires and alignment.

I do remove the brake rotor and caliper just to keep the weight manageable. I don't disconnect the tie rod.
