Default How do you unplug a COP?

Hello,

This is my first post. I'm getting ready to change the plugs in my 2008 F150 with a 5.4. I've read all the posts about what needs to be done, so I feel fairly confident about changing the plugs. I also bought the plug extractor tool just in case.

My question is - how do you unplug the Coil Over Plug (COP) from the wiring harness? Is it as simple as just pulling on it? Is there a tab that needs to be pulled/pushed to release the connector from the harness?

I just want to make sure that I don't damage the harness trying to get the COP unplugged.

Thanks,

Mike

You should not need to unplug it from the harness, unless you are changing the cops, too. Just unscrew the 7mm bolt that holds each one on and pull it off the plug. If you are changing the cops, there is a catch on the connection to the harness and you have to depress the plastic to disconnect it.

Once you loosen that 7mm bolt just pull the coil off, the boot may not come out with the coil. I just used a pair of vice grips to pull the boot out

Thanks for the information. I thought it would be easier to remove the COP to get at the plugs. If it's not necessary, that's great!
