Default How do I replace/change the bulb on my floor shifter

The shifter light has burnt out on my 2004 F150 Lariat. I got the cover piece off so now im looking at all the wiring and stuff. I've found the light but can't figure out how the hell you replace it. Tried pulling it out, pushing it out, twisting etc etc I dunno. I know all the positions so I don't NEED the light. But since I bought the truck last year the light has never worked so I figured since I have nothing to do today I would reaplce it. Things were so much easier on my 1986 toyota pickup 4x4.

Ps. I wasn't able to put this post in the How To section, screen came up saying I don't have access/permission. Also did a quick search on this too.

-take off the top of the console trim
-the bulb socket just untwists from its place, it takes a good twist counterclockwise to remmove it
-pull out the old bulb and replace it with a 194
-put it back in the hole twist until it locks it
-snap the cover back on
-your gear selector will be lit

Yup, that's exactly the steps I did. Except I skipped a step. I instead drove 6min to the Ford Dealership and one of the service guys sat in my truck, pulled the light out, I chuckled and said. "oh". Apparently all you do is pull it out Oh well, when I tried to unplug the light it wasn't coming out and I didnt want to test the breaking limit so I was hesitant, now I know for next time though.

BEST OF ALL, THE DEALERSHIP DIDNT CHARGE ME

I bought 4 of them lights too. That's where I did get charged though. $2.56cdn for 4 lights.

WOW I love this forum!!! I just bought my 2005 F150 Lariat and found the floor shifter light wasn't working. Wasn't familiar with the truck at all because I've upgraded from a Ranger so I jumped online and did a search and voilą found this. Thanks a lot ATOM for the solution and you too physodfreerider for posting the question.

I think I'll try to use some blue colored bulbs because the white ones are little to bright for me at night with that light shining upward.
