Default How is the dash panel under the steering wheel supposed to attach?

The previous owner had rigged this lower panel up to the dash using two cabinet hinges and sheet metal screws. I would like to replace the panel and install it correctly. The problem is I see no way the upper half of the panel is supposed to attach. The lower half has two tabs with mounting holes, but the top has nothing on mine. Hoping someone could help me solve this mystery.

I think we are all trying to wrap our heads around this. Why would someone install a "cabinet door" in the lower dash? Which panel are you referring too? Under the steering wheel?

If I remember correctly they have tabs at the top that go into holes, and then you have 2-3 bolts on the bottom, I think that is called the knee panel as well.

Here is a link on eBay with front and back pics of one.

Thanks for the reply. Somebody used two cabinet door hinges and sheet metal screws to hold this panel on to the dash. Why they rigged it up with door hinges I have no idea.

I just need to know how the panel is supposed to attach from the factory.

Thanks for the link! It looks like my tabs might be broken at the top.

Alright I ordered and received a new dash panel. I went to install it today and now see why the previous owner had rigged the old one up. There is nowhere for the two metal tong clips to go into on my truck's dash frame.

I believe the two clips snap into the upper plastic panel (the one that covers the instrument cluster)
