Is it possible he is referring to the hooks that are put on vehicles when they are transported new (for securing to the transport truck). Usually there is like one on the front and one in the rear?

You can get you generic tow hooks and hook them to your frame with Grade 8 bolts. But you will have to cut your valance for them to fit

You can get the stock tow hooks that the 4wd ones have, i've seen them for sale on craigslist for like 40 bucks. But you would need to get a valance that have the cutouts.

I would think that no matter if you have the 4x4 or the 2x4 the frame would have the holes drilled into them to install the tow hooks. Isn't that kind of how they do it on the assembly line to save money? Just drill the holes on all the trucks but only install the tow hooks onto the trucks with 4x4. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think if they all come from the same plant then all trucks would have the holes. But maybe the 2-wheel drive models only come from one certain plant.

I think it is just "tow hooks." That is if I am thinking of the same thing that you are.
