HID ballast install
Had to rip out my HID's and send back a bad ballast and am trying to figure out where to install the ballast this time around. Originally had them mounted on the top plastic fan shield but was looking to hide them this time around. Any ideas?
I mounted each headlight ballast right next to the housing. It's hidden and fits perfectly with the headlight reinstalled as you can see in the 2nd pic.

I also mounted my fogs' ballasts basically in the bumper. This is the driver's side.

Looks good. Did your ballasts come with mounting brackets? I got the slim ballast kit from ddm for the headlights and the regular ballast for the fogs. The slim ballast have a eye on them to run a zip tie to but the regular ones have nothing. I was thinking trying zip ties and 3m tape to keep them on
Yeah that's why slims aren't worth it to me for our trucks. We have ample room in the engine bay to mount them. Came with a bracket. I drilled out a larger hole in it to mount in that location.

It's a marine adhesive used for below the waterline (underwater) adhesion. There's 3200, 4200, and 5200. 3200 is used if you want to seal something and be able to remove it easily in all applications (like without ripping off gelcoat on a boat). 3M makes it. Stuff is a lifesaver.
So i got around to doing the install tonight after work everything went smooth at first. Found a spot on the passengers side right in front of the windshield washer reservoir and a spot on the drivers side where the ballast slid perfectly into a groove on a cross member, just used some zip ties and secured them both down. Also meant I could reinstall the smoked headlights.

Now on to the bad part... After I drove it out of the firehall bay, went to start it back up and the drivers side flickered once and stays off... Going to double check the connections and the ground tomorrow (wasn't completely sold on the ground spot i used to begin with. Unbolted a bolt behind the headlight housing that connected to the frame and couldn't get sandpaper in there to clean it real well). But I'm not too optomistic about it. Ballast that I sent back a few weeks ago had the same problem which is the reason I had to uninstall everything... Hope my luck changes tomorrow and its only a bad connection or ground

Gotta love glare!
The problem is probably either the ground or voltage drop as i assume this is a kit and just plugged the ballasts into the stock wiring harness right? Like more crappy kits anyway...
There is usually a lot of voltage drop over the stock wiring, you should use relays to keep voltage high enough to keep the ballast powered correctly. If they do not receive an appropriate amount of power, they will burn themselves up.
My advice, go back to the stock halogens like the reflectors were designed for. That glare looks terrible. OR spend the money and do it right by purchasing DOT certified projectors, ballasts, and bulbs.
