I am thinking of buying a Ford F-150 XLT on Tuesday. The truck just turned 40,000 miles. This will be my first Ford product and I don't have too much knowledge on the Fords. Can you please tell me if this is a good year to buy what recalls if any or things to watch out for so I can better check it before I buy it. The truck is very clean. The inside looks like no one ever sat in it. It has satellite also has 20 inch rims with new GoodYear tires. Thanking you in advance..

If it is the 5.4l make sure you get the plugs changed. Also, I think there is a problem with the cam phasers, someone with a 5.4 will chime in hopefully. Post pic's of your truck when you have questions about something, it will help all of us give you answers.

 

ya cam phasers too, makes it sound like a diesel

 

He might be able to get away with them changing the plugs at no costs,but the cam phasers,ya i dont think they will change that.Also i like my diesil sound.Not as loud as my F350 turbo diesil,but thats ok.

I guess he could walk in there and say hey,i will def by the truck if you replace the cam phasers and the plugs.Give it a try.Worst they could do is say so and in any case they lost a sale

Yes it is a 5.4l I will have them pull a history in the service dept before I get it.

 

I test drove it and did not hear any dieseling sounds from the motor and I stepped on it. It is not very peppy but then again I've always driven sports cars. It drove very smooth and was quiet. We will see what happens on Tuesday after I see the records. Thanks.

 

My 04 fx4 has never giving me problems although I have changed the spark plugs.
These trucks are damn fine trucks!
I will do a little research on this cam phaser thingy.
Its good to know all you can when your in love with something.
