Default Hesitation when passing

Lately it seems that when Im out on the highway and try to speed up and pass a slow car if I stomp on the gas pedal the truck hesitates a bit, the tach climbs up to around 4k and then it goes.

Today it happened when I was doing about 45 and went to pass a slow car.

Normally the truck is a bit of a slug from a dead stop but usually ok once its up to speed. I really dont beat on the truck and just drive it normally so my foot isnt always to the floor.

Is that normal for these trucks?

Mine is an '06 with a 5.4. Its got 81k.

Mine has a horrible hesitation too when speeding up while already moving. I think the computer's thought process is... (you hit WOT) Truck: "Do you really want to do that?" (You don't let up) "Alright then... Okay I'll go"
Just my thoughts, and incorrect justification for sluggish passing.

It's a known issue with certain models......'04-07 or 08 I believe? The fly by wire is garbage.

Get an Edge Evo (or other chip/programmer) and you'll see that hesitation go away........that's what level 1 on the Edge was made to do.......

So its basically normal?

Ive thought about getting a programmer but dont really want to use higher octane gas and dont need more power from the truck.

What is level 1?

I tried the pedal to the floor and up thing a few weeks ago when I saw that thread and didnt notice any improvement or increase in power.

I havent checked to see if the pedal is hitting the firewall and I havent had time to clean the throttle body yet.

In normal driving the truck is fine, no problems with the way it runs and drives.

spark plugs helped mine, it was doing the same thing
its like it didnt make any power until 4k rpms
i think if the spark is weak it takes more cylinder pressure to make good combustion

I actually bought spark plugs a while ago and my friend was going to change them but he couldnt seem to get them loose without a ton of force and didnt want to break them so he left them in and I returned the plugs.

I figured Id get them replaced eventually if there was an issue with them.
