Default Help. Urgent. Fuel filter problem

I am in the process of changing my fuel filter. Followed instructions I found online and the filter came out extremely easily in about 2 minutes. I put the new one in, re-connect the lines (I heard the clicks) and also put the metal bracket back in place.

I turn the key on and off a few times and gas dribbled out some. Then when I try to start the truck it wouldn't turn over and gas just pours out but stops once I stop turning the key. I checked the lines again they seem to be connected and in place.

Any ideas on what I did wrong?

I wanna say either you put the filter on backwards or they gave you the wrong part

That could be it. Some of these trucks gave 3/8" lines and some have 5/16" could of Ben given the wrong one.

I'm pretty sure I put it on the right way. The arrow on it means flow, so it should be pointed towards the engine.

The filter looks identical to the one I took off.

And it appears to be leaking mostly from the engine side line

That's right arrow points towards engine. Hmm did you take the line back off and try to reinstall it again? Just in case it didn't lock into place properly?

I did and double checked the size. It was wrong. I'm back at autoparts store now. They're having a tough time finding the filter with the large connects

Got a new filter, but the guy claims that was the only size Motorcraft made. I showed him the old one with the larger connects and the word Motorcraft stamped on it. He said thats all that was listed, which seems wrong considering they put all my truck info in the computer to find the right part. Anyway, no Motorcraft so instead I got a brand called Drive Works. Never heard of it. I put it on, started it no problem, and then drove it around the block to make sure. No leaks so I think I'm good to go.

I prefer to use what Ford recommends, so I'm a little pissed right now about that. Not to mention I put a good amount of gas on my drive way for no reason.

Before I checked the size, I tried to turn it over twice holding it for a second or two, obviously without success due to the lack of fuel flowing. Any chance I damaged something doing that?
