Help, Rough idle in traffic.
I have had an intermitten problem. My 2007 Ford F-150 5.4L SOHC 4x4 with 64,000 would start fine, run fine, hit a highway and thats fine. Sometimes once I come of the highway and hit start and go traffic the idle gets very rough, alot of pinging and clanging from the engine. Once I accelerate everything is fine. I brought it to the dealership and then had it for 3 days and could not duplicate the problem. Their answer was either bad gas or the Throttle Body needed to be changed. I wasnt buying that. I have a friend that has a code reader. Now there is NO check engine light but the was 2 pending codes. One was the MAFs High input and the other was P0345 Camshaft sensor. So since all of this happened if Febuary, I have replaced the MAFs, the Camshaft Sensor, The fuel filter, had the fuel system and throttle body serviced, changed the air filter and have chanded many different gas types and grades. And I still have the same problem PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!
Yes, starts beautiful. Runs with not problems until it warms up and then all the pinging clanging like a diesel engine. but if I hit the gas it balances out. Its not constant. I have not had any other codes yet.
Brought the truck to the 3rd dealership today, they foubd the problem in an hour. Camshaft phaser and VTC solonoid. Engine might need to be replaced if they find any damage to the camshaft. I have been experiencing these problem since 40,000 miles and 2 different dealerships could not find the problem. Now the truck has over 60,000 miles and out of warranty another dealership found the problem and FORD will not help me out with the warranty. I will never buy another Ford.

Got the original service request paperwork from Ford when you took it in for this problem back when it had 40K? If so, you may have a case with a regional Ford service rep.
If not, lesson learned. Always get, and file away all paperwork when taking a vehicle in for diagnosis and/or service. You never know when it comes back to haunt you.

First I would switch the VCT solenoids with each other and see if you get the code for bank 1. If you do its the solenoid. If you still get P0345 than you have a cam phaser issue on the driver side. Your motor is fine. Your cam is fine. If they weren't then the motor would run terrible cold. Cam phasers only start to operate at normal operating temp. This is why you can only replicate the problem when truck is warm. This is the conclusion I've come to from reading the forums. I'm gonna replace mine shortly as well. Keep us posted.
I do not have the original paper work but I did call the service dept of the dealerhip that had it at 40k and they faxed me the record they have.
"Check vehicle was pinging going up a hill and bucking"
"tech road tested, no condition found at this time"
thats all they have on record. As far as FORD's warrenty dept the problem was not diagnosed until afret the 60,000 so its not covered. But thats is a good Idea, I will try to get intouch with the rep.
@mjlater they took the valve cover off and the engine is scarred and metal fragments throughout. They want to replace the engine at the dealership.
