Default Help with Part Numbers, Please

Hi all,

I have a 2004 F-150 Extended Cab Lariat with the Triton V-8 (New Body Style) that the factory installed AM/FM/6 CD Changer died on. It was working fine until the truck sat for several months and the battery went completely dead. After I got the battery charged it would not power on at all. I have checked for power at the radio connector and have it on Pins 1 (constant) & 2 (acc or run).

My unit that was installed is a Part Number 4L3T-18C815-DP. (I have the Premium Sound with the Subwoofer under the rear bench seat) I have noticed while looking for a replacement that there are a number of "similar" units available with ALMOST the same part number. The only differences are in the last 2 characters. I have seen -EM, -EN, -EP along with -DM and -DN units. Most interchange listings say any of these others will not fit my vehicle.

Does anyone here know what the differences are in these units that "appear" (from photos) to be the same unit, including all the correct plugs on the rear. I would have to believe these are minor differences, but hoping someone here can speak with some actual knowledge as to what the differences are and what might work for my vehicle.

Thanks in Advance!

John

If that was off the back of the part it might be an engineering number and not so much a part number.
go to fordpartsgiant.com and put the vin in.

All that page gives me is the bolts to hold the head unit in place.

Maybe there is another menu I need to find??

take the vin out and then look it up again.

It will have all the radios offered for that year.

Mine came up it is an 06.

Ebay has a very liberal return policy.

And if the seller is right then any 6L3T-18C869-AD

will work.

My guess is he knows what he is doing as he has sold quite a few of them.

its such a huge upgrade to get a modern head unit, with BT, touchscreen, etc, and not much additional money/time to do so. Would really give second thought to replacing with a 04ish stocker again.

the safety/comfort factor of gaining proper hands free speaker/phone that automatically turns off other audio when taking/making calls is worth it alone IMO.

also typically easy to add a front and/or backup camera to (for little expense) if wanted. Depending on which headunit you choose
