Default HELP!!!! I'm so confused.

Hey I know we are beating a dead horse here when it comes to tires. But I just can't figure it all out. Heres the deal.
I got a 2006 XLT Supercab 4X4 with stock 17s and all. I want to up grade and I need new tires any way. I think I have it figured out that with out a leveling kit the biggest I can go is 33in tires Right ? Im looking at doing a 2 or 2 1/2 in level. Which is better? and what size tire can I go to with the lift. I cant figure out the tire numbers I would use to order the tires.
Also someone said I should maybe drop down to a 15 in rim if I want bigger tires than the stock. wont that hit the brakes if I go smaller ??? Im not good when it comes to wheels and tires. So please lay it all out to me like im a five year old. I can take it. Thanks

You can't get smaller than 17s without hitting the brakes.

I have a 2.5 leveling kit with 35's. They only rub at full lock.

The stock 17s and 18s are the same width and offset, so the same overall tire diameter and width will fit the same.
