Hi there im posting on behalf of my husband whom isnt very computer literate lol .. Hes got a 2008 F150 stx , and this morning he had the truck in park and all of a sudden the "check gauges" light comes on , all of the idiot lights come on , the 4 wheel drive high and low are flashing, and the speedometer and temp gauge arent working ... does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

I had a Grand Prix that did that. Turned out to be the computer.

well now the 4 wheel drive high low lights are fine , was a burnt fuse ... we checked all other fuses and they are also fine. went to advanced auto and had them scan for codes , was reading "link error" borrowed a buddys scanner and that also reads "link error" ... still trying to figure out what the heck is going on , speedometer not working , engine temp gauge not working , and check gauges light is on... any other ideas or suggestions?

if the scanner isnt connecting its the fuse for the ciggarette lighter. i think its 41? maybe. check your manuel. if its running and driving its not your computer.

also check your battery. sometimes our trucks act up with a weak battery.

yes the truck is running and drivable, we have pulled all the fuses and checked them , the only one blown was the 4 wheel drive high/low lights which is now working properly , i doubt its the battery cus everything else is working fine , but it wont hurt to check ... I was thinking maybe the abs sensor is bad?? I dont know if that would have anything to do with whats going on as im still learning the ins and outs of cars ... could having worn tires (practically slicks now) cause this to happen ?

no, worn tires wont cause anything. i was driving on slicks before i got new tires lol and didnt cause any problems (except when it snowed 2 years ago here...that was fun lol)

you might have to bring it in to a ford dealer and have them hook it up to their scanner if the regular scanners arent connecting and you have a good fuse for the cig lighter socket. if you have one of the old push in cig lighters, try using it in the socket just to dbl check its working. or a cell phone charger lol.

Thought that was a dumb question but it never hurts to ask lol cig lighter is working good , the battery gauge on the truck is reading normal but that could very well be screwed up too, do you know what the battery is supposed to read when checked? also husband just said when he turns the key on right before he starts it he can hear a chirp under the hood somewhere ... we want to avoid going to the dealership they want $150 and 2 days time to diagnose
