Default heater core?

2007 w/69000 miles, started getting a faint odor of coolant when the heat is on. It seems to come and go. Anyone had this before, and how much to replace the heater core. Or should I go cheap and go with bars leak. No coolant on the floor yet or window fogging. Seems to be a small leak for now.

Sounds like the heater coil... There simple to replace and probably 40-50 bucks.

Ive had a similar problem, some say it is the heater core, others say its a drain valve that is clogged, since my passenger floorboard gets wet, but does not smell like engine coolant, and its just water.

I think to replace your heater core it is a PIA since you have to take off the whole dashboard(not sure), since i have not fixed my problem yet.

Default heater core 2009 F-250 light duty

yea the whole dashboard needs to come off. We have two 99 f-250's light duty once cng and one lpg flex fuel. both have had their heather cores go out. One truck more then once. Since having the mechanic replace the 50 dollar heater core for 600 smackers we decided to do it our selves this time around...and now that the heater core is in 5 days later, we have kind have forgotten how the dash came apart...Anyone know where the diagrams might be online for the dashboard configuration?
