having a hard time buying a ford instead of a hemi
I want a 04+ f150 but am having a hard time seeing the reliability issues they seem to be having. The main problems im hearing about the fords are the cam phasers, falling windows and premature tranny failures. The body styles are close but the ford looks a bit betterThe fords interior is nicerThe hemi has more powerHemi is lighter but gets worse fuel economyI prefier the dodges door config with the extended cab w. 4 doorsThe Lariat f150's look greatThe dodges all look the same with a different color of paint.Oh and i almost forgot the fords tranny is only a 4 speed while the dodges is 5.Wouldnt be using the truck for towing only hauling a quad in the summer and sled in the winter. Also for some off roading in both seasons.
If you want brand new, The Ecoboost v6 pulls better, is faster empty or loaded, breaks quicker, and gets way better mileage than the Hemi. If you want a V8, go with the 6.2l Ford, and same thing.
So why not look at a late 06 or later 5.4?
May I ask if you've been on any Ram sites to see if/what issues those trucks have for the same year range?
It's apparent you want the large engine; otherwise I'd suggest looking at the 4.2 V6's and 4.6 V8's in the F150's, as they do not have the issues of the 5.4.

Dodges do have well built engines (most of the time), but in my opinion the rest of the truck is not built well. Dodges have a very stiff suspension and the ride is uncomfortable in my opinion. I used to work on cars for a livin and I would say the majority of vehicles with the major problems were Chrysler (Dodges) and GM, then the off brands (Subaru, Hyundai, kia etc), then Fords, lastly Toyota/Honda. From my experience...

Did Ford ever fix the can phased issue in the 3v. The windows don't bother me. And how bout the tranny's I've herd the 04's were the best and what year did they add the auxiliary input to the sterio
The 06 or it may be the later 06 and up have the cam phaser issue resolved. I have had my 07 for years as of Sep 3rd. The transmissions in these trucks are strong but as with any vehicle there are going to be failures. Mine took the abuse or drag racing and 500hp before it gave up and even then it was my own stupidity. I was hot lapping at the drag strip and not allowing it time to cool. I also learned later that the dyno tuning i had at that time i had adjustments in it that were detrimental to the trans. Lesson learned. Either way it has been four years 64,000 miles and the truck has been trouble free even through my endless pursuit of more power. I love this truck!
