Default Hard Shift into 2nd

Hello everyone,

From what I understand, this may be a bit of redundant topic but I couldn't find anything that was a perfect fit for my situation and really wanted to play this one safe.

I have an '07 F-150 with 140k miles on it and appears to be shifting into 2nd Gear kinda hard, at least harder than when I first got the truck. It's intermittent almost. When I'm cruising along and taking it easy, it shifts smoothly 90% of the time, however; the other 10% I can feel a 'bump'. It feels identical to hitting one of those reflectors you'll find in the road that helps you see the lanes at night. I can replicate this 'bump' virtually 100% of the time if I give the truck moderate or higher throttle and then let off the throttle when it's about time to shift to 2nd. (This might be par for the course, however.)

The transmission fluid is currently pink with a slight tinge of brown. It's last recorded trans. fluid change was at around 90k miles. So, the color seems about right for where it is at.

Anyone have any suggestions/input?

Thanks!

My 06 has 136k and I just had the tranny rebuilt because I had the same problem until one day it just went out but I'm not saying that's what's wrong with yours, just a possibility

Mine kind of has a hard shift into second as well when I really get on it. When I take it easy and slow, it's a relatively smooth shift. My friend likes to make fun of the shift when I get on it because it's so rough. But he's a Chevy guy so it could just be that haha. I'll eventually get a tuner and see if that helps.

Part of that is normal, and IMO part is from the fluid. I'd try a pan drop/refill with a new filter and see if that improves the situation.

When I started to read your post I thought "he's letting off just before it shifts" LOL just because...automatic transmission behavior.

Additional question, would it be a good idea to use some Lucas transmission fix along with a fluid change?

Would a transmission overfill cause this behavior also?
