Any metal will corrode if not properly maintained, but that depends on the environmental conditions, use of the metal and the type of maintenance required by the metal.

Like I mentioned earlier, not are stainless steels are created equally. I would absolutely love to see any proof of Inconel 600 series corroding or staining due to environmental conditions or lack of maintenance. Any staining seen on Inconel 600 series is simply through heat cycling and it creates a bluish tint, and nothing more.

300 series stains a dark reddish colour which can be equally wiped off with something as simple as WD-40 and a microfibre cloth. As far as maintenance is concerned, just clean off the joints where salt can be trapped. That's it. I would like to see any studies on 300 series corroding and failing. The only time I have seen 300 series stainless on an exhaust fail was when it was welded improperly and the seam broke at the weld. This was due to welder inexperience and the wrong welding wire.

400 is crap. I don't need to get into this because this is simply OEM standard. You should be lucky to get 4-8 years out of a 400 series exhaust.

The super 44 was painted mild steel and the Thrush was aluminized steel, but still welded.
I guess Flowmasters and Magnaflows have an "economy" line, and a "premium" line like MBRP and such. I have never seen any of those manufacturers weld their mufflers, but my exhaust experience has been with much higher end makes. Good to see that Flowmasters and Magnaflows are improving. I remember when they would simply fall apart within a year.

Those Super 44s are bloody loud, even louder than the Dynomax the previous owner installed on my truck. Almost as loud as a Harley.
