Default Grill guard paint

So I'm painting my grill guard because it was starting to fade and chip. And I was grinding it down and it's taking forever. It's been 3 hrs and all I've got to show for it is this

Would it be that bad of an idea to just spray the new paint on top?
Any suggestions to make the paint removal go faster?

clean it. scuff it to knock off loose stuff (use sandpaper) then spray it.

So I don't have to sand it all the way down to the bare metal?

I did my entire truck with that stuff, the gallon roll on got me 2 coats. Take damaged paint areas down to metal then prime. Scuff everywhere else then acetone wipe everything clean. Then your ready. Here's a few pictures of mine.

i would get it as best you can and just paint it. if theres any edges that lift when u paint or down the road it would be easy to just fix those areas later without having to do the whole thing
