GPS Mounts
Anybody have any luck with after market GPS mounts? I just bought a TomTom 1505 and want to mount it preferably on the dash next to the radio so it's out of site on the windshield. I've checked out proclips, but they are very expensive. I've found a site called mount guys that sells cup holder mounts that expand to fit a cup holder for a decent price. Anybody have any ideas? This TomTom screws on to the window and is not the easiest to get on and off like the old Garmin I used to have. ( garmin is a two piece while TomTom is a one piece) anybody here come across this before! Thanks for the help.if I can find a mount so I can leave my GPS in my truck would be great. I always use the sun visor, so for the most part, it would be out of sight.

Pro-Fit VSM G3 mount.
I used it for my XM docking station, the cup loosened up where it snapped on the optional (it's included, you just don't have to use it) "J" adapter (on the ball), they sent me a free updated mount that has a collar on that tightens it's grip that's been pretty good ever since.

For my Garmin, I tried suction cup mounts, I tried a "bean bag" thing, too bulky .... here's what I use now and I love for the cars and trucks. Easy to use, secure, easy to set into floor, not bulky, very adjustable, bendable, sticky base (I reapply plastic when stored in my GPS bag so less fuzz / lint / etc attaches) . I never leave it in view. I added a 12vdc outlet at the bottom of the console between it and the driver's seat base and that is where it plugs in.

The ball on the Pro Fit VSM G3 and the Garmin is the same size, so the Garmin mount works on the VSM G3 if desired as well.

I couldn't justify the cost of pro clips. I used the round plastic disk that came with the TomTom. I removed my cigarette lighter and power my GPS with it. I attached the disk to the hole left where the cig lighter socket was with double sided tape. It's been on about two months and only lost suction twice. I might go to a arts and crafts store and get a round glass disk to replace the plastic disk.
I don't know if you have the shifter on the floor so you might not even be able to do this, but i got an aftermarket mount with a long flexible arm that i screwed into the underside of the useless filler under the cig. lighter and bent it up to make it blend in. I'm able to leave my power cord plugged into the GPS and stored in the cup holder so it's there when I need it. Here's a crappy pick I took about a year ago.
