Good negative ground
I have a 2007 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4 engine. I am hooking up a wiring harness for a trailer mounted Warn winch. The 19 foot harness has a connection at the back of the truck which carries the positive charge from the battery and a ground wire which also attaches at the back of the truck to the frame. The front of the harness has a single wire which attaches to the positive terminal of the battery. The instructions recommend that a separate ground wire be attached from the battery negative post to either the engine or the frame. Given the tight space, I would prefer to attach this ground to the engine - specifically to the alternator bracket on top of the engine. Is there any reason not to do this? Specifically is the motor itself a good ground on the f150? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
A second question, the battery ground connector on the f150 is a rather flimsy affair. Is is OK to use this for the ground wire mentioned above? Thanks again!
