Gold Mine!
For those of you in western NY I have stumbled across a gold mine!
My one buddy I met at my gym told me to give his boss a call about mounting tires/rims and doing an alignment as well as balancing.
Saturday night I went out to the shop, with 8 wheels in the back, 4 snows and 4 18" rims with wranglers I didn't want.
For $50
-remove 4 20" rims
-removed 4 wrangler tires off 18" rims
-mounted AND balanced new winter tires on 18" rims
-did some laser alignment method
-mounted tires on truck and actually tightened in correct star pattern with 130lb/ft impact wrench and then hand tightened each lug nut to 150lb/ft
As this was after hours I was standing helping him where I could due to him helping me out so much.
After he was done I went to pay with my credit card and he said cash only and I said I had $1, no joke. He said hey, no problem just give it to my friend when I see him next and not to worry about it!
Now the real good stuff! We were talking about previous fluids and maintenance I had been doing on the truck since I got it and he asked if I done the spark plugs yet, which I have not. He said he always has the #8 break on him and he has done over 20 5.4's. He said he'll do it for $70 bucks as it only takes him an hour and $70 if one breaks as it is about an extra hour to remove it. He said it's usually only 1 that breaks as he soaks them and takes extra care to get them out. So he said plan on no more than $140 total to do the job, but that he was fairly confident that with only 78k he could probably get them all.
Overall a real nice guy and did everything right as far as correct methods where my tires are concerned. He specializes in light and heavy duty trucks but does everything including wiring.
If anyone in western NY is interested I will let you know how my plug change goes and any other maintenance I have done.
It's going to happen in about a month as he is completely booked until the first week of January.
Though I'd share and see if anyone was interested, thought the least I could do was help out a privately owned shop that does great work and helps someone out!
