Has anybody had trouble getting their truck out of gear with the console gearshift and if so, what did you do about it? I'll crank my truck ('04 Lariat), put my foot on the brake and it won't come out of park. I really have to fight with it for several minutes and all of a sudden, I hit it just right and it's fine.

 

I have the same problem, mine is an 04 also. I has been replaced twice and still does it every once and awhile. I found the part under the center console plastic piece, its white gear lock . Next time I have real trouble I am going to disable it somehow.

 

Yeah, after reading through some posts yesterday along with some research on the internet, I found out about that switch so I've got my console loose enough to get my finger in there to release it every time I get ready to go somewhere but what a pain! When you had it replaced, did Ford do it? If so, can you tell me what they charged?

 

ford did it and it was like 300.00.
I am going to find some way to keep the release switch released permanently.
