Default Gears 101 please...

I really need help understanding what gears to choose. I understand how they work but dont know what gear is right for me and my mods, or mods to come. I dont even know what type of shop does that kind of work, mechanic, transmission,etc.
I have a 2wd 4.6 with 22's on 265/35's. This is just a street truck. A grocery getter, work truck,etc. I dont tow anything, but I do do a long vacation drive once a year. All I have is a glasspack in place of the stock muffler. Future mods are a CAI, shorty headers, and maybe trueduels with a tune. I really want to get rid of the sluggishness it has because it hella annoying.
Even some links would be helpful. Thanks.

With a 265/35/22 tire, that's actually a shorter tire than stock diameter at about 29.5". A lost of people run a 305/40/22 on a 2wd truck, which is about 31.5" diameter. You should be noticing slightly snappier acceleration.

As far as getting new gears, look in the phone book, or try google. A lot of times, transmission and or clutch shops sell and install gears. Or your local mechanic is likely to be able to install them. Ask around your area. Or try calling around some performance shops. They should be able to guide you in the right direction.

Thanks but I have searched on here and googled and looked at vendors online to see what gears they sell. But like I've mentioned I dont know anything about gears. I dont even know what we have stock. So when I look online, I dont know what I'm looking at or for. That's why I was asking for some quick tips or even links on where for me to study. I'm willing to do my own homework. I'm just asking for some direction please. Thanks.

I would try a transmission shop for installing gears.

How to determine your trucks gear ratio;

Best I could do. Good luck. I would do the intake (maybe the gotts mod will do), exhaust and then get a tuner at the same time, and order a custom tune with it. This will help with the throttle response. Clean the maf too. That will give you an idea on what you have and where you want to go (gearing wise).
