Hi,
having problem with 04 FX4 47k. Mi. Stopped to put gas in when pulling trailer and when I turned around from pump, truck was gone? Thankfully was able to catch & hit brake before hitting anything. Truck would not go in park or start when selector was showing park. Was able to get started in neutral and reverse to back up & set brake. Drove 4 hrs ok on hi way but when home no reverse or park? Selector just feels Lind of loose in those positions like some linkage is loose.
Anyone had anything similar, or sugestions of problem or how to fix?

Found the shift cable had came out of retainer bracket and was frayed almost through. The center cable is free from center to move out of casing without moving shift bracket on tranny. Has anyone replaced this cable? Hard- easy? Aftermarket- dealer item?

 

I would love to know the answer to this. I just had the same thing happen to me
