Default Gauge cluster screen and preventative maintenance

I just picked up my second 11th gen, 2006 XLT SCrew 5.4 4x4. It has about 140k miles but I haven’t been able to actually check because the gauge cluster screen just doesn’t have text. It lights up but there is no text on it. Is there any way to solve this or do I just need a new cluster? I have a code reader but I just don’t know where it is currently. I need to change the oil because it’s almost black and it sat for a bit it seems. What preventative maintenance can I do so I don’t run into issues with the 5.4? I know oil changes every 3k miles but what else? I’d rather not have timing issues again like my old 11th gen. I will attach an image of the cluster screen if that helps. Thanks in advance
Edit: I have not checked the fuse for the cluster yet. Another thing is that when the truck is on and a door is open, the door chime will repeatedly play over and over again randomly. I also have noticed that on both trucks occasionally when stopping they temporarily dip below idle and come right back up with no vibrations, is this normal for the 5.4?

find fordtechmakeuloco on YouTube, watch his vids. You’ll learn a lot quickly. Could also search here as there are tons of existing threads on the motor and on cluster issues.

a poorly maintained 5.4 3v is a risky gamble. Good luck.

I wish you the best. Unfortunately it’s another 5.4 3v and most of them have issues. If it was taken care of better than most, maybe you’ll be lucky.

As far as milage, it’s stored in the cluster. Unless you can figure out what failed, and fix it, you’d need to send the cluster off to a repair place / buy a new cluster and have them program milage.

How do you know it only has 140k if it doesn’t show?

An 18 year old 3v 5.4 is a gamble.

There is a simple fix for your odometer in your guage cluster that fixes most odo read-outs (can be googled) My 07 had it & I was able to fix same !!

Basically remove cluster from dash entirely... (simple) Can't remember exactly entire procedure as to how much you dis-assemle the cluster itself but it should be easy !! What you are looking for is the very backside of the odo meter screen itself. You will see on the bottom of this screen 7-10 pins....With a magnify glass examine all these pins @ the base where they enter the screen....Now look hard @ the base of these pins & you should see a real tiny black line around one or more of some of the pins....That is a cold solder crack & there maybe more than 1 pin affected ?? I cleaned each pin with a muratic acid damp/wet Q-tip then used rosen core solder.. Using a 25watt soldering iron dab a small amount of new rosen core solder on each pin @ the base only....Do not use acid core solder !! Just heat & a slight dab with solder & you should be golden !!! RE-install & odo should now work if it was fixable to start with.....You may have to remove that plastic circuit board away from the pins .....Do not get any heat near or on that circuit film......... Note: your odo reading is stored within that screen so it should be accurate mileage on the read-out?? Been a long time when I done mine but it was an easy fix & this is what I remember...If you install a new cluster a dealer has to marry the odometer numbers into the new cluster or it will read the mileage from the doner vehicle !! Good Luck !!

It would be nice of you to report back @ some time even to say you tried some things & possibly even fix your issues..... That way others will learn what fixed certain problems !!

+1 for what maco said
That is your best bet
A new cluster would be hard to find and need programming for the PATS
Way better to try to fix yours
