Default Fuel Pump Driver Replacement

I appreciate all the hard work of many members that documented the replacement of the fuel pump driver module. I was experiencing intermittent hard starting problems only on my 2006 F150 4.6L truck. The FPDM replacement seemed like an easy plug and play project. Previously I replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter but this did not solve the intermittent hard starting problems. I replaced the original FPDM with the Dorman 590-001. The original Ford FPDM did not show any external corrosion. When I installed the new FPDM, the plug was hard to push in and latch. Rather than force the plug I removed it. When I removed the plug the white plastic insert remained attached to the Dorman FPDM. I removed the FPDM and carefully extracted the white plastic insert. I was able to line it up properly push it back into the plug. With some dielectric grease the plug latched easily. The engine started but the check engine light was on. I let it run for minute or so and cut it off. I immediately tried to restart it but it would not start. I checked the fuse and reset the switch. It still would not start. There was a strong fuel smell at the tail pipe.

An hour or so later I did get the engine to start. It ran a little rough and died within a minute. The engine would not restart. The started cranks the engine and does not lug down. After repeated attempts to start engine after it sat overnight, it will not start. I would appreciate any ideas on the next step.

PUt the original fpdm back in?

I don't have a 4.6 but I think people with hard starting and rich startup have reported problems with the evap purge valve or some such similar hardware issue. I don't recall the solution, but Maybe search for evap valve and you'll find similar repair ideas
