Default Fuel Grades and Additives.

Sorry if this is covered someplace but I couldn't find it.

I was curious as to what grade fuels you run and any thought on additives.

I have 2005 5.4 auto 4x4

These trucks are designed to run on regular, so thats what I run. 87 is the grade for regular around me and sometimes I'll toss in a little 89 if I'm feelin' froggy. No reason to waste $ on premium. Additives I will usually run one tube of lucas fuel injector cleaner through my tank once a month because the 04-08 injectors just love to get clogged.

I was surprised to see in my manual that the manufacturer require only 87 octane. Most new cars want you to run higher grade fuel. With that, I had to take my truck to the dealer when I had only 17k miles on it. It was running really rough. At the end of the day, the guy asked me if I had been running a higher octane. Saying no, as not to void the warranty coverage of this, he said that there was an excess of unburnt octane which was fouling the plugs. Needless to say, the dealership morons here only replace 1 side of the engine. I had to take it right back.
So I stick with the 87. I will now and then put in an injector cleaner. Seafoam goes through it just before my plug changes.

I run 87 as well and a bottle of Gumout fuel system cleaner every half a dozen fill ups or so.

Thanks. Good to know 87 is the way to go. I tend to use Lucas anyway so I am right on track with that.
