Gotcha, I replaced a hub assembly and that wasn't too bad so I figured it would be similar.

I am currently diagnosing my 4X4 system. I have a new solenoid but seem to have a problem with both IWE's. After a long drive (1+ hour) I will get a grinding noise when I turn at slow speeds - usually to the left. Other than that, no unusual sounds but my gas mileage is about 12mpg around town and 14mpg around town.

I jacked up each side and rolled the tire with the engine off, and then engine on in 2wd and 4wd. Engine either off or on and in 2wd the tire would free wheel and the half shaft would spin as well. In 4wd the half shaft would also spin but only a little because the tire was only able to move a few inches before it would stop. Is this what other users with bad IWE's experienced?

When I tried to feel for vacuum at the lines going to the IWE's I couldn't really feel anything. Is the vacuum very noticeable?

Engine on in 2WD half shafts should not spin.. You have a vacuum leak in either the lines or an IWE itself. You can verify this with a vacuum pump barrowed from your local parts store.
