Front Differential Fluid Change
Local oil change place says that the front and rear differentials and transfer case need fluid changed. Do the two differentials use the same weight gear oil in both? Sorry, 2007 F-150 4x4
My 04 does but my Haynes manual says that 05 and later models rear takes 75W-140 and the front is 75W-90
So, how would the local oil change place know if the differentials were due to have the fluid changed? Typical of those kinds of places trying to make a buck at your expense.
Umm.... Maybe because it is their job. My local place checks every single fluid in the vehicle and knows exactly what they are supposed to look like and smell like, what the levels should be, and exactly what type to use where.
It may be their job but I don't trust them. Wife ran thru and one and they told her air filter was dirty and needed changed. Problem was it was less than two weeks old. Another story is my bro in law took his thru one before a long trip. All fluids checked right, nope. Burned up the transfer case in his suburban. I'll never trust a place that uses a set of pliers to remove the oil plug. Just my two cents.

Honestly, changing your own fluids in your differentials is so easy. Did they take a sample from your transfer case and differential? Did they show you it? Did they know your vehicle records? My guess is they would say they would change it and not touch it as you would never know if it was done or not. Literally the only way to check is to get right under the truck.. open the fill cap and put your finger very awkwardly into the hole just barely touching the fluid and have zero clue on the condition. Seems like the perfect scam for someone who knows nothing about their vehicle and they tried to pull it on you. Oh and the transfer case is even easier then changing your own engine oil. Literally open the drain, fully drain, tighten it up, open the fill, add 2L and done.
