Why are people so insistent on turning off the VCT system when the issue is resolved by replacing the old with a new, proper updated VCT during the timing job. (Ford OEM or Melling)

Because it sucks.. im tired of it . I had parts all replaced with OEM parts except the oil pump. Because I didnt do that the whole system doesnt work. I turned off vct and it drives like a dream. No issues, no power loss. I even tuned with an edge for fue economy and im around 14-16 vs 10-11 with vct on. Its an old truck that costed me 4200 and ive spent 3200 digging for the problem. Now I memorized how that system works in ford and yeah no thanks. If it was reliable like in our chevy .. maybe.. but no.

Oh, you have less power, depending on how the VCT is locked out (+ or -). Also, there's no way you should get less fuel economy with the VCT on.

That's why i have an edge 87 octane tune with vct off. Check this pic out. You can see when i tuned the vct off. I have a Verizon hum system that logs everything my truck does.

Sunday at 14 mpg not bad considering vct is off.

im on 35s stock gear and i was getting 10mpg when i was struggling with the vct.

Oh, no wonder you get poor mileage. You have 35's, stock rear gear. The increased fuel economy means you are getting less power at the rear wheels.

On stock tires (255/65R17) and 3.55 rear end, I get around 11 city, and 15-17 highway. I have seen as high as 21 driving in the mountains (where the speed is usually around 45-50)

Yes. I have less power on purpose. Im using a modified edge 87 octane fuel economy mode tune. I have the tune to make more power but that's only on 91 octane.im not interested in power. I got tired of Ford's vct... Ask fordmakoluco on YouTube.

Edge programmers have 3 modes
Economy
Towing
Extreme

I have all 3 modified to work without vct.
