Default Flex Fuel vs. 93 Octane

So this past weekend i was at the gas pump, truck was sitting on E and i glance over and see that the E85 nozzle says its almost 50 cents cheaper. So being that it was so cheap i gave it a try, i resest my mpg to see what this did for me and it hurt my feelings to say the least haha. I looked and saw an average of 9.2mpg when i am used to seeing 13.5 or so. so yesterday i decided to put some 93 in the truck to see what my numbers would be and i was amazed to see 17.3 mpg on the interstate.. i think its safe to say that i will be sticking with the regular gas and not any of the ethanol bs. just thought those numbers were pretty off the wall.

Lol

Ethanol is complete ****, i was looking into running ethanol and when i found that our trucks were rated at like 11mpg highway for ethanol that killed it for me pretty quickly too

E85 is rated at 105 octane which is far superior to detonation than standard pump gas. It is also far cheaper than racing fuel and therefor being used at the strips a lot more now.

But as you saw operationally, it almost doesnt always make sense to use it over standard pump gas in a daily driver because the benefits do not out way the cost.

i just did the same thing. 55 cents/gal cheaper here in mn. figured it would save $15 per fill up. usually im getting about 460 miles per tank or about 16.5mpg on 87 octane. using e85 i got 350miles so about 12.5-13 mpg

Wow, I think I put the E85 in my truck its the 04 XLT 4.6L and I am only getting like 13-14 tops. So if i step-up to 87 grade will it improve my gas mileage some? Around here the difference is only about 0.15 per grade. Unless you want 93 which is about a 0.35 per gallon up and if you go with no ethanol its almost a 1.00 increase per gallon. And only two places in town still use no ethanol :z

I love E-85 for my turbo talon for the detonation purposes, you can push more boost and more timing with no knock. But yeah, I would never use it day to day for driving, not great for fuel mileage.

I buy E85 every chance I get. I dont care if it gets less MPG. Id rather give my money to AMERICAN farmers than oil companies overseas.

I have never even seen a place that offers E85 around here. E85 will start to drive up food prices. We cannot even augment ethonal production with sugarcane because we don't grow in the states anymore. Plus how much petroluem is used in the production of ethonal.

Default e85+ is only good in non flex vehicles

If the engines and fuel systems were made for e85+ only and no gasoline better mpg and horsepower would b dramatic. If e85 was readily available I would consider building the engine in my truck to b strictly ethanol. But with the flex fuel even ford motor company doesn't want u too run e85, my owners manual says every third tank fill with reg gas. There is one other problem with ethanol, if you let it sit it will condense moisture from the air and get water in it.
