Default Flashing CEL need help

Driving down the road yesterday the truck started running rough and the CEL started flashing and did this for about 10min then quit. I took it by a very well known shop with a high dollar scan tool and they couldn't find any codes recorded. I really need this fixed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to start throwing money at it on the wrong thing. Thanks in advance. 2005 5.4l by the way.

Hi.

Apparently not high enough. Sounds like misfires. There will be stored pending codes. You need those codes to pinpoint the misfiring cylinder(s).

Ask them to look at Mode $06 data.

How many miles on the plugs?

Can display similar symptoms - but with far more disastrous consequences. Get them checked ASAP, as you are within the affected demographic.

good luck

Hi.

That's good news.

Now you need to check the COP-to-plug sring pconnector, presence of dielectric grease, condition of the boot, the connector on the COP itself, and lastly, may need to pull the plug to inspect that. It may also be the injector on that cylinder.

How many miles on the plugs? (second request, lol)

And - do NOT lose that Ford Injector Letter, whatever you do... I'd schedule an appointment to check the injectors for leakage, asap. Yes - it's that serious.

good luck

I was told they were changed at 100,000 and it had 135,000 but I have no way to verify that.

Hi.

I see. Positive verification can be made by pulling a plug (may as well be #8 if you do - you need to inspect it anyway).

Once it's out, post a pic of it and/or supply the number on the plug. It will be very evident if the plug is still original.

good luck

You can do that, or simply switch it with another cylinder's COP to see if the code moves with it or not.

Hey MGD, do you know if Ford will check the injectors for free if I take it in?
